A recognized technology leader known for crafting the requisite strategic vision to achieve business goals, William “Bill” Macfarlane offers a unique blend of executive acumen, global team-building and IT solutions development with strong ROI and operational results. He has worked with retail, consumer products, manufacturing and ecommerce focused companies during his career. He has been a part of many start up enterprises as well as turnaround and M&A activities.
Most recently as the Chief Information Officer at Western Stone and Metals dba Shane Company, Bill built a responsive global IT organization (US and Thailand) that consistently delivered results by aligning technology initiatives with business goals, with substantial improvement to service delivery, standardization and business systems performance.
While serving as Senior Vice President / Chief Information Officer with Source Interlink Companies, Bill designed a corporate organization support structure to maximize existing talent, eliminate redundancies and provide better leverage of processes and overall support of the distribution, ecommerce and magazine publishing businesses.
At Consumer Consulting Bill was an independent consultant and firm partner handling retail strategy and IT consulting engagements for various companies chiefly in the retail, distribution and consumer products space.
Bill also spent two years in Munich on an engagement with an internal Siemens company mobile phone start up. Although initially contracted for a supply chain design project, it was during his tenure that he also led global sales with a team of 10 professionals in Munich, Singapore, Paris and Shanghai.
Bill has held senior positions at companies such as Walt Disney Company’s Disney Store division, Smart and Final, and Arthur Andersen Business Consulting He has provided consulting advice to numerous Fortune 500 companies throughout his career.
Bill holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He has been a member of the South Florida CIO Council, Board Member of the Information Services Division of the National Retail Federation (NRF) and a board member of RETEX. He currently serves on the advisory committee for RIS news, a retail IT-focused information source.
