Dr. Brian R. Murphy has extensive senior executive experience in development, commercialization, and operations for companies with complex, state-of-the-art technology portfolios. He has been responsible for annual budgets up to $500MM and business units with over 300 employees and contractors. Brian has founded or been an early leader in 6 startups and negotiated nearly $400MM in financings. He is recognized as a strategic executive, successful in advancing organizations to the next level on their journey towards excellence.
Brian has enjoyed conceptualizing and creating new technology companies, transforming establishing companies, and nurturing collaborative alliances. He has served as CEO of five early stage companies and as a Director of a publicly traded company.

As the Director of Global Rig Manufacturing for Ensign Energy Services, a publicly traded global drilling and services provider to the oil & gas industry Brian championed the transformation from a boutique rig constructor to a high volume rig manufacturer. He was responsible for the Company’s largest division with an annual budget of $500MM and over 300 employees and contractors.
Brian founded PrimeStar Solar and served as Chairman and CEO where he negotiated more than $350MM in financing, licensing world record technology from the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory, negotiated hundreds of millions of dollars of State incentives, and succeeded in commercially scaling “laboratory” technology. A successful exit was secured for his investors and employees through acquisition by General Electric.
He formed a collaborative joint venture with the global engineering firm CH2M Hill and led a multi-disciplinary, multi-state team to advance technology for the energy industry.
Brian served as the Executive in Residence at the Colorado School of Mines where he focused on preparing graduate students to transition from university life to careers in industry and the business world. As part of this effort he developed a seminar series, mentored graduation students, and shared his personal experiences of success in the business world.
He is an inventor on four granted patents and eight additional patent applications.
He is an active participant in the sustainability and venture communities.
Brian is a graduate of Michigan Technological University where he earned BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering and a Doctorate in Metallurgy. He lives with his wife in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies outside of Denver and is an avid outdoorsman.
