From the Desk of Mick Freeman: Why the Inclusive Impact Catalyst Program Matters Now (Working Title)
As we ramp up for the inaugural kick-off of the first cohort of the Inclusive Impact Catalyst (IIC) Program, I’ve been reflecting on just how big this moment is—not only for the entrepreneurs we’re serving, but for the entire BEN Colorado community and the city of Denver as a whole. It’s a statement about the type of economy we want to build and model for Colorado's entrepreneurial communities.
90 percent of startups fail, We think 90 percent can succeed. Denver is home to an incredible pool of early-stage founders with fresh ideas and fierce determination, but too many of them still face invisible barriers: limited access to capital, few investor connections, and hard to find opportunities for tailored mentorship. The IIC Program changes that.
Backed by the Economic Development Administration through the City & County of Denver, and delivered (or powered? To keep language consistent) by BEN Colorado, the IIC Program is designed to meet these entrepreneurs where they are. We’re offering both tried-and-true and innovative new strategies through free, expert executive coaching, business plan refinement, pitch support, investor readiness, and empowering connections to people who are ready to champion their growth, open doors, and help them secure the resources they need to scale.
But the ripple effects go far beyond. This is a milestone for Denver itself. When we equip underrepresented founders with the tools to thrive, we’re not just launching businesses, we’re fueling a more inclusive and resilient innovation economy that reflects the diversity, creativity, and ambition of our city.
This is where the community becomes an ecosystem through action.

At BEN Colorado, we’ve always believed in the power of give first, pay it forward support for promising entrepreneurs. This program is a reflection of that. It’s a rallying point for all of us who believe entrepreneurship can and should be a lever for economic mobility and systemic change and long-term inclusion in a robust, supportive ecosystem.
We’re just getting started—and I hope you’ll be part of it.
